Religion vs. Jesus

When i was in high school i overheard a conversation about religion. One of the kids involved looked at us and said, "I hate religion, but i love Jesus". After our dumbfounded looks and his obvious pleasure in our surprise he smiled and told us why. "I believe Christianity is suppose to be a relationship with God, not just a religion." This guy was a well known pastor's kid in our school and was well known for his faith. I challenged his thought process and put up the idea that...

Jesus created religion... therefore we should love it.

I've seen a lot of Facebook posts of this video (which is slightly ironic because it's exactly what the video talks out against).
Religion is defined as : A particular system of faith and worship.
This video gets under my skin a little because i think it's really dangerous to say, "i hate religion" for the purpose of shock and awe. The ideal behind it all is that we should not be the like the Pharisee's and take religion as a routine. James 1 :27 says," Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."
The word "religion" isn't an "unclean" word we can't use.
"Religion says 'slave', Jesus says 'son.'"-Why i hate religion but love Jesus...
When i was a freshman in high school i went to a winter camp through my church. Our teacher was a professor at Shepard's Theological Seminary. I was so moved by his message that we are Christians who are slaves to Christ. Before, we are slaves to sin and we become free to sin by accepting Christ whom we then become bond-servants to. Our purpose is to serve and glorify him through our worship and faith.
"No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." -Matthew 6:24

It's not religion that ridicules and hates, it's people. I think it's inaccurate to say that religion is man made when our system or faith and worship was created by God.
It is correct to say that people ruin religion, that sin destroys it's sanctity.
I would agree with this video's frustration with the persona that Christianity had been plagued with due to the way that we as Christians have acted. I don't think it's religion's fault... it's sin's.
