Matthew 4

Matthew 4:
I’m completely convicted by this chapter. Satan tempts Jesus with “the lust of the flesh” and “the lust of the eyes”. I would hope that if I were tempted by these things, I would have enough strength to run from them. Then Jesus is tempted by “the pride of life”. I know where my struggles are and even just reading this passage, part of me wishes that Jesus would have thrown Himself down and command the angels to whisk Him away just to rub it in Satan’s face that He was the Son of God.

It just reminds me that I am such a prideful sinful person in need of a loving Savior.

Thank goodness for the cross.

That's all

Religion vs. Jesus

When i was in high school i overheard a conversation about religion. One of the kids involved looked at us and said, "I hate religion, but i love Jesus". After our dumbfounded looks and his obvious pleasure in our surprise he smiled and told us why. "I believe Christianity is suppose to be a relationship with God, not just a religion." This guy was a well known pastor's kid in our school and was well known for his faith. I challenged his thought process and put up the idea that...

Jesus created religion... therefore we should love it.

I've seen a lot of Facebook posts of this video (which is slightly ironic because it's exactly what the video talks out against).
Religion is defined as : A particular system of faith and worship.
This video gets under my skin a little because i think it's really dangerous to say, "i hate religion" for the purpose of shock and awe. The ideal behind it all is that we should not be the like the Pharisee's and take religion as a routine. James 1 :27 says," Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."
The word "religion" isn't an "unclean" word we can't use.
"Religion says 'slave', Jesus says 'son.'"-Why i hate religion but love Jesus...
When i was a freshman in high school i went to a winter camp through my church. Our teacher was a professor at Shepard's Theological Seminary. I was so moved by his message that we are Christians who are slaves to Christ. Before, we are slaves to sin and we become free to sin by accepting Christ whom we then become bond-servants to. Our purpose is to serve and glorify him through our worship and faith.
"No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." -Matthew 6:24

It's not religion that ridicules and hates, it's people. I think it's inaccurate to say that religion is man made when our system or faith and worship was created by God.
It is correct to say that people ruin religion, that sin destroys it's sanctity.
I would agree with this video's frustration with the persona that Christianity had been plagued with due to the way that we as Christians have acted. I don't think it's religion's fault... it's sin's.

New Project!

I was riding in my friend Emily's car and i picked up a project that she had finished... a headband! I made one for my sister for Christmas and i liked it so much... i made one for myself! I changed it just a little by knitting a small loop to cover the pinched seam. Hopefully by the time i get back to Spokane it will still be cold enough to wear with the mittens i finished this break!

Hooray for hobbies!!!

Thanks Emily for the inspiration

Holiday Festivities!

The Holidays have gone and i'm still looking at a month of break while everyone else goes back to school. I'm anticipating a little boredom but so glad i get to relax before the next semester.

Christmas this year was so fun and relaxing... i think my favorite part of Christmas day is waking up late and doing nothing all day but eating and opening presents. This year we added Sunday morning church and invited our tenant from downstairs to have dinner with us.

Our always funny looking Christmas tree
Gingerbread men!

The space was suppose to be for the tree but it just ended up
looking awkward...
This year i ended up seeing New Years Eve and Holiday Inn. Each year i feel this gigantic pressure to have the most fun i have ever had on New Year's Eve. I guess it would be easier to have the "movie" kind of fun if i was the type of person to make out with whoever or fall in love in two seconds... (both are still fun movies to watch).
We spent New Years Eve with my family down in Portland, Oregon! I always love visiting them and catching up. This was probably one of the best New Year's i have had and it was so simple and had absolutely no pressure. We went to my cousins basketball game, agreed to ALL see War Horse, played a ton of Carcassonne,  The Game of Things, drank Diet Coke, each ate a pound of cookies, DIDN'T do karaoke (which is really weird), and laughed... a lot. My sister's boyfriend also got to celebrate the New Year with us which was fun!
New Years Eve Chinese food!!

Harmony Ear Candles

We bought these candles that you are suppose to put in your ears and burn. It's suppose to create a vacuum which sucks up your ear wax. We each did it to both our ears and got some pretty nasty looking red wax out of each candle. We ended up trying an experiment and burned one while it just sat in an empty can of Coke. We got the same results and all ended up pretty disappointed that it didn't really work....
Life is hard when your a skeptic

Before midnight we played a game and hopped into the hot tub while the Aunts and Uncles built a fire outside next to us. We drank some sparkling cider and laughed our heads off while welcoming in the New Year with family, cider, a fire, Christmas lights all around, and a game of "Who would die first in a Horror movie" (I was the last one alive).
Countdown to 2012!
P.S.
ladies... My cousin Chris (pictured front left) is unfortunately taken... i believe this pose was for his girlfriend.
